Lift Evac and Refresher

Lift Evac & Patrol Refresher
Wachusett Mountain
October 25-26

Ok, so this past weekend Was the Wachusett Mountain Ski Patrol refresher and Lift evac. The refresher was on Saturday, from 7:30-4:00 it was a long day, but it gets us thinking about what to do in certain situations. Some of the people needed A LOT of help, but others were in good shape. I was a victim in the afternoon, but had nothing to do in the morning, so it was REALLY BORING for me. the afternoon was a lot faster!!

Lift Evac was a lot of fun, and wasn't too cold this year, some people will argue with me tho. All the patrollers and Rangers were required to be there, and there were no major problems.

Mass Jam 2008

Mass Jam 2008
North Falmouth, MA

This past weekend was Mass Jam, a big scouting event that happens every few years. This year was the first time in a while that it did not rain the entire time. I spent most of my time catching up with people i have not seen for a while, and helped with the awsome theme show "Stars".

There were a lot of different things to do including a climbing wall, air rifles, archery, the action wall, a 1st aid course, blacksmithing, mountain boarding, friction bridge, and a few random exhibits. There were a lot of people there i knew. We also had a Venturing dance, well more of a get together Sunday night.

Beginning of School

Ok, so i'm just updating people on the happenings since the end of camp.

i'm back at school for nursing, and have been spending most of my time with an amazing girl named Kyla. My classes are all going well, and i like my schedual so far. the only down side is that i have a class really early in the morning on tuesday and thursday.

I miss camp, but am glad that i am not there for right now. it is a lot of fun, but i like the real world to. I caught up with my friend Megan, ans she is having a good life so far too.

I don't have a job right now, but im hoping to be working as an EMT soon.

I have spent most of my time with Kyla, usually on the weekends. I also helped Amy move into her new place. I am glad that i have been able to keep up with people after dissappearing for the last 2 months.

End Of Camp

Camp Wanocksett
2008

OK, so the last week was a crazy one, we had a lot of "bonus" program including a huge water balloon fight, a HUGE fire, and the last dance with Camp Wa-Klo, the girls camp across the lake. The water balloon fight was as big as ever, well so i was told because i slept through it. The dance was OK, but in the beginning the lighting was wrong, so me and another staff member made a decision to change it... admin didn't like it, but there was nothing they could do about it. The dance overall went well.

Later in the week, Thursday night to be exact, we had our huge bonfire with about 250 pallets.

it was about 30 feet tall when we were done building it.

Burning bright

Yeah we may be crazy, but we are safe.

We made apple pie =)

That night me and 5 other people stayed up to make sure the fire didn't get out of hand. i was the only one that stayed up the entire night, so i slept through the day on Friday, the day of the large water balloon fight.

All the campers left Saturday, but not before the entire staff went swimming in full uniform!

Breakdown Week!!

The last time we were all together was probably the banquet Monday night during breakdown week. it was a lot of fun, and we had good food, but it also came with some unfortunate news. Our camp director of the last 3 years, who had been on staff for the last 10 years, was not coming back next year. we were all very surprised, and the general consensus among senior staff was that it was a little bit scary because we knew that we would be running the camp next year.

Overall the summer was a lot if fun, and everyone made a lot of new friends!!!

Camp Update!

End of Week 6

Camp is basically the same, but there have been a few challenges. We now have a couple of staff members on vacation for the rest of the summer... not by choice. Next week is our last week with campers, and is usually the most fun because of all the "bonus" programs. Over the past month, we had some staff members go to Philmont scout ranch, in New Mexico. it is a high adventure base where scouts go and backpack for a couple of weeks. While they were gone, program ran the same, but people were borrowed from other areas, and everyone did what they were supposed to. Over the past couple of weeks, i have broken apart, and burned a building, and learned to drive the camp tractor. The funny part about the tractor is that i am allowed to operate it, but the camp director, and assistant camp director is not allowed to use it. In the past couple of weeks, i have also broken a lawn mower and replaced the starter in the red truck, and in the new motor boat.

CRAZY STAFF FUN DAY!!!

Between weeks 5 and 6 this year we went on crazy staff fun day. it is just as it sounds, a lot of fun. we go to the beach for the day, and then spend several hours at the hampton boardwalk at night. this year it was a lot of fun, but it rained for a little while. every year we get in some kind of trouble with the police. this year, a group of our older staff members acted like raptors, and attacked one of the younger staff members on the beach... the police thought someone was being raped. Before we even left for the trip, one of our staff members accadently dumped a cup of soda on the bus driver... he was pissed. oh yeah... the bus driver was not good at shifting the bus, almost every time he shifted, he would grind gears... i cringed every time.. and my music was dead so i couldn't drown it out :^(

More Camp

Update : Wanocksett
End of Week 2

This week was our inspection week, so we could be accredited by the Boy Scouts of America. It was full of hard work, and a lot of small detail work to make sure we hit all the requirements. This week was a little different for me because i usually do not have to teach the campers, but i worked with the nurse and taught first aid because the class was too large for her to handle. Before this week, i was not sure what to think of the nurse, but now i have a little bit of an idea what she is like.

WE PASSED INSPECTION!!!

I enjoy working at camp on the ranger corps because it gives me a lot more freedom, and sometimes gives me an excuse to skip out on some parts of the program that are not as fun to be a part of. The only real down side is that the campers do not really know who i am, and i do not know the rest of the staff as well at this point. The only people i really know are the ones that have been there in years past, and the ones i work with regularly. On thursday we had a dance with the girls camp across the lake. the only reason i mention it is becasue i think its funny to see the reaction of both the girls and boys when they first see each other... and how it reminds em of middle school dances where the 2 groups are pretty much divided until the very end.

Every friday night i am in charge of making the Pizzas the troops order. This week went a lot better because we acrually knew the process, and we had a little more help... like 2 people more. the only real down side to it is that i do not get to go to the closing camp fire to watch the silly songs and skits the Staff perform. the nurse keeps telling me i need to see their rado skit, but there is only so much i can do to be at the fire while cooking pizza for the entire camp. This week during pizza i burned myself pretty bad on my arm. ill try and get a oicture up in my next update. I didn't do anything about it until after pizza was done cooking. i went to get it looked at after i was done and got critisized for waiting. i didn't think much of it, but they are alreagy looking a lot better than they did when i first got them.

Today instead of coming home and leaving camp right away, i stayed and hung out with several people. we went sailing and tubing behind the motorboat. I enjoyed the sailing more just because it gave me a chance to think about things and didn't hurt as much. I also got to meet about half the nurse's family. i had a lot more fun playing at camp this today than i would of if i came home.

Wanocksett Staff Week

Ok, so this past week was Staff Week for Camp Wanocksett in Dublin, NH. This week is a lot of work, but it is worth it so we can see our home the way we have come to know it. When we first arrive the camp looks like crap, and none of the program areas are set up. There are also leaves everywhere, and many work projects that need to be completed. The worst part about this week is not all the work that needs to be done like raking, setting up program areas, setting up tents, and making sure everyone has everything, it is sitting through training after a long tireing day. this week is the first time the entire staff is together for the first time, and ususally predicts how the summer will be. i think this year will be good, but we have a lot of new staff members, so the returning ones, like me and the rest of the senior staff, really need to step it up. also i don't think many of the CITs will be back next year. I have only worked with them for a short period of time, but from what i have seen, they are not to bright.

This week is a great time to catch up with people, but there really isn't enough time. Also people start arguing with each other =( its not a good thing, but we can only guess why people hold a grudge agaist someone they have not seen for 8 months.

Overall i think the week went well, and we will have a good summer. We will find out this week who will need to be repeatedly reminded that they are there to have the time of their lives, but need to make sure the program supplied to the boy is the best we can.

THE SEASON STARTS ON SUNDAY ADN I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

THIS WEEK REMINDS ME WHY I LOVE CAMP SO MUCH!!!
