24 Hour Event 2008

Wachusett Mountain

24 Hour Event 2008

Feb 29 - Mar 1

Top Of A when the lights were out

so the 24 hour event at wachusett was a while ago, but i have been pretty busy. i was only able to take 1 picture. nothing special, but it explains the night. for the most part it was a quiet night for me. for the mountain... it was REALLY BUSY!!!! the mountain was packed all night, and there were lift lines all night, until the mountain had to close at 7:00 because of lift problems.

the beginning of the night was quiet, only a couple of accadents. the first major problem the mountain had was at about 11:00. all the lights on the mountain shut off. it took a little while to get them back on, but the bottom of connifer connection (8) had half the lights off all night. it was kind of wierd, but the lack of lights did not cause any big problems.

at about 6:00, the summit lift (B) stopped completely. we did not know what happened, and neither did the lifty at the top. she called over and asked if we saw a flash before the lift stopped. i thought i did and was right. they unloaded the lift on the diesel, and started to figure out the problem. they blew the transformer that made the lift go. so they shut all the power off to the entire mountain at 6:45, so we swept and closed the moutnain. while waiting for them to figure out the problem, i fixed the ramp at the summit, and learned how to operate the lift. it was fun.

the patrollers that were there and working were john Frost, Jeff Morris, Me, and i want to say dave? oh yeah and bill brooks >.< that guy messed up some stuff, causing us some trouble. tucker was also there, but he wore a normal coat and carried a radio. he got to play all night, but saved us when we needed a back board on ralphs (1). over all it was a long night, but it was kind of cool to see the sunrise from the top of the mountain in the winter.

Patrolling for the day

Ok so not in any order these are a few of the pictures i took. the skiing was great, but i got all the accadents for the day, yeah all of them. i was frist on for all of them except for one, which i brought a sled to. i really should be sleeping right now, but i wanted to put these up. my day started at 5:30 this morning and is still going. oh yeah... the night was pretty boring. NO ONE WANTED TO SKI!!!!!!!!!! sure it was cold and windy, but if you put your face in your jacket on the way up the lift, it was not that bad. Matt H, and Tucker was on the other side, so i really didn't have anyone to ski/ride with all night. they all just sat in the top shack, and as you know skiing/riding by yourself gets old really fast.

All of the pictures look okay, but you would think they all look like crap if you were actually there. i am thinking of doing it again next week. well the morning anyway, it kinda depends on who is going to be there and how much homework i have.

Best part about night crew was being asked all the time where my other half was... i got pretty confused, but caught on eventually. oh yeah... melissa and missy kept asking me if i was lonely... the answer : YEAH!!

Week 7 Fire

dropped radio?!?!

that thing is HOT!

Burning good!

Yeah its that big before the flames

yeah that is a couch

This is the fire we build once a year during Week 7 up at wanocksett. Sometimes we burn old buildings like the waterfront tower. This year we needed to get rid if a lot of wood from behind the ranger station. So we got rid of it in one final burning... well most of it... we still needed to dispose of some stuff during break down week. The wood pile was probably about 30ft tall, and the flames reached about 60ft. It was a good fire. We also got rid of a couple of old pieces of furniture that had seen better days. The best part about this fire was that noone called the fire department on us ^.^ it was still burning in the morning, and making the water boil when it hit the ground
